Quackenbush Post 205, Grand Army of the Republic.

This collection consists of 10 mss. boxes arranged in three series: 1. Selected records, 1883-1928. Includes various records of the Post, papers relating to the Sons of Veterans, Michigan Division, an organization for male descendants of Civil War soldiers, a listing of war veterans of Shiawassee County, records of the Dept. of Michigan Grand Army of the Republic Headquarters, letters from the Michigan State Fair Board inviting veterans to join Old Soldiers Day, letters from the family of James Curwood, a letterpress book which includes newspaper cliipings relating to the Post. 2. Orders from Michigan Headquarters, G.A.R., 1886-1928. This series contains orders from the Michigan Headquarters of the G.A.R. regarding encampments, regulations, memberships, reports, election of officers, lists of members whose addresses were lost, rules and regulations regarding supplies, amendments, appeals for aid, and the need for neutrality in politics. 3. Shiawassee County Battalion of Veterans, 1890-1927. This series contains the papers and records of the Battalion which was formed in 1890 under Thomas M. Wiley, and records of Isaac Lonsberry who served in Company D, 35th Michigan Voluteer Infantry in the Spanish American War.

This collection contains the records of the Quackenbush G.A.R. Post 205, which was organized Jan. 14, 1884 in Owosso, Mich. The minutes of the monthly meeting depict a preoccupation with the needs of the members. The financial records show continued expenditures for clothing, food, medicine, and burial expenses of the veterans and their families.
